Founded in 1916, Shawmut Corporation is a fourth-generation, family-owned-and-operated advanced materials developer and manufacturer, headquartered in West Bridgewater, MA, with 13 locations across the world.

Today, Shawmut is a global leader in advanced materials, textile manufacturing, and lamination process innovation across the automotive, medical, filtration, defense, protective, health and safety, and technical solutions markets.

What started in the structure of America’s oldest woolen mill producing braided fabric and synthetic yarn has transitioned over time to create a range of composite materials, technical textiles, and lamination solutions across the globe.

Shawmut Historical Timeline​

1916

Founded by Rudolf Wyner in Massachusetts as a vertical producer of knit apparel, located in America’s oldest woolen mill.

1940

Manufactured and distributed our braided fabric, branded knitted children’s apparel, and synthetic yarns.

1950

Developed Sag-No-Mor jersey knit for high-end retail fashion apparel

1958

First U.S company to license a newly-developed European process, known as flame lamination, which we lead the industry with to this day.

1970

Shifted our business focus to lamination for apparel, footwear and medical applications.

1972

Added proprietary adhesive lamination process

1980

Began automotive headliner lamination

1984

Relocated to current West Bridgewater, MA, headquarters.

1996

Opened Port Huron, MI manufacturing plant dedicated to Automotive headliner

2000

Formed strategic partnership with Glen Raven Technical Fabrics

2008

Opened Clinton, TN manufacturing plant

2012

#1 headliner supplier in the NAFTA region

2013-2018

New global facilities and offices in Japan, China, Mexico, Germany, and Czech Republic

2016

Shawmut Corporation celebrated 100 years of innovative textile manufacturing and lamination solutions.

2018

Formed JV with Glen Raven Technical Fabrics in Burlington, NC plant

2020

Launched meltblown filter media manufacturing capabilities in West Bridgewater, MA

2021

Launched Protex line of disposable N95 respirators and isolation gowns
